One Lucky Duck Cake Smash Session in Douglasville, Ga
Oh, my goodness!!! What a fun theme this turned out to be. My client reached out a couple months ago with her theme and I was excited about it as I have not done this theme before. If you know me, you know how much I love getting new props, new themes, new anything to play with creatively. So, when she mentioned this theme and sent the inspiration photos for it, I was thrilled. I pride myself on creating unique setups, not the banner and balloons sets you can put together on amazon (although sometimes that is exactly what the client wants so I will), but creative and fun new ways to create a set.
I was racking my brain for weeks over the duck part. I knew she wanted realistic mallards, not rubber ducky's, not cartoonish. So, I began trying a few methods. I was using my laser to cut out a duck that I was then going to paint, but I hated the idea of it feeling FLAT! I was hitting a wall. I asked my husband for advice because I was torn between a few options at that point, that's when he mentioned getting decoys. Yup, hunting decoy ducks that would like float on a pond. They are perfect, well except the big float piece on their bottom that I had to saw off with a butcher knife like a crazy person... but I had a vision at that point, so I had to go with it. I LOVE The way it came together. Yes, this is shot in my client's home in the child's room. We moved some things, and I set everything up. The client loved the ease of not having to travel anywhere for the shoot, but I have to say it did make me miss my studio space. So, if you are looking for a shoot just know that booking me puts this small business one step closer to being back in a studio space that I can really fulfil my dreams in.
